Online sales have closed. Tickets will be available at the Spencertown Academy and at the Market on the Green from 9am-2:30pm.
The glory of spring and promise of summer beauty will be on full display at the host properties in Columbia County, NY. There is a wide range of landscape styles and many delightful surprises one can only see and appreciate when you enter the grounds of these residences. Join us to be inspired by visits to four private gardens in Stuyvesant, Valatie and Spencertown.
The historic town of Stuyvesant on the Hudson River is home to two of the gardens. On a former 200-acre dairy farm and apple orchard, an 1890’s Colonial Revival Style home sits atop a hill offering awe-inspiring views of the Hudson River and Catskills. Contemporary architecture employed in the design of a guest house, studio, pool, pool house, and raised-bed vegetable garden contrasts dramatically with the historic original residence to very pleasing effect. The plantings perfectly compliment the entire space without stealing focus from the stunning view.
Inland, a quarter mile from the river, a very different garden occupies just 2 acres but boasts a naturalistic meadow, a kitchen garden, shrub borders, a stream-side woodland shade garden and vintage barn. Additional stops on the route feature a ca. 1760’s farmhouse anchoring a 20-acre property with an array of rustic outbuildings and towering trees, all of which creates a charming setting for numerous sunny and shady perennial beds and a rock garden nestled in an old barn foundation.
And it’s THE perfect time of year to enjoy another historic residence which is home to an Italian-style formal courtyard garden, a walled rose garden, numerous specimen shrubs and trees and a lush perennial-filled flower border.
Day-of tickets will be sold at the Academy and at the Market on the Green starting at 9:00am.
