Volunteers already are accepting books, CDs and DVDs, and skillfully sorting them for easy browsing. Bargains will abound. Even volumes set aside in the Special Books Room – limited editions, signed copies, etc. – will be affordably priced. Memoirists, novelists and biographers will read in the tent, and children will visit with popular character Froggy, a fun and friendly fellow.
But the Festival of Books is more than a gathering of readers in search of bargains or insights from authors. The annual Labor Day weekend event is a major fundraiser for the Spencertown Academy Arts Center. The Academy derives the majority of its operating expenses from the Festival, other signature events, memberships and donations.
