Spencertown Academy Presents Laura Anglade Quartet Vintage Jazz Concert Saturday, December 7
Spencertown, New York– Spencertown Academy Roots & Shoots Concerts Series presents a jazz concert by the Laura Anglade Quartet on Saturday, December 7 at 7:30pm at the Academy’s Blanche Grubin Auditorium. The concert will feature vintage jazz from Broadway, the Great American Songbook, and Tin Pan Alley, along with classic French Chanson. General admission tickets ($25 public, $20 Academy members) are available via www.spencertownacademy.org.
“The Laura Anglade Quartet bring their unique style of jazz and French/American songs back to the Academy after a brilliant sold out show last year,” says Michele Quigley, who co-chairs the Academy Music Committee with Wayne Greene. “Laura will be joined by her usual group of stellar musicians, including Ben Rosenblum on piano and accordion, Marty Jaffe on bass, and drummer Ben Zweig. We look forward to enjoying hits from the Great American Songbook, Tin Pan Alley, and French classics.”
Anglade’s voice is reminiscent of the great traditional vocal stylists of the 20th century, but is uniquely her own. As she digs emotionally and eloquently into a lyric, her storytelling abilities portray a soul beyond her years. Her albums include “I’ve Got Just About Everything” (Justin Time Records, 2019) and “Venez Donc Chez Moi” (Justin Time Records, 2022). She leads an active international touring schedule and has performed at such prestigious venues as Olympia (Paris), Royal Festival Hall (London), Town Hall (New York City), the Ace Theatre Hotel (Los Angeles), and the main stage at the Festival International de Jazz de Montreal. She opened for Gregory Porter at the Victoria Jazz Festival (summer 2022), and Melody Gardot (fall 2022), joining her across the east and west coasts of the US and Europe. She is currently based in Toronto.
Pianist and accordionist Rosenblum has toured extensively throughout the United States and internationally in Canada, Europe, and Japan, performing at such venerable venues as the Appel Room at Lincoln Center, Kuumbwa Jazz Center, Ravinia, Himawari-No-Sato Concert Hall in Yokohama, Bird’s Eye in Basel, and the Library of Congress. His musical interests also extend beyond jazz to include work in numerous world music scenes, including musical styles from Brazil, Peru, Croatia, Bulgaria, India, Ireland, Jewish traditions, and more.
Bassist, composer, and improviser Jaffe’s musical roots are in the jazz tradition, however, he also has a deep background in classical and Brazilian music. He has shared the stage with musical icons Wynton Marsalis, Marcus Roberts, Ingrid Jensen, Karrin Allyson, Harold Mabern, Sullivan Fortner, Sergio Mendes, and Steve Wilson. He has also performed in interdisciplinary productions directed by choreographers Bill T. Jones and Debbie Allen. When not in NYC, he tours throughout the US and the world with numerous groups.
Drummer and percussionist Zweig has played around the world in places such as Japan, China, the Netherlands, Germany, Israel, Chile, Cameroon, across North America, and locally at venues in his native NYC. He draws inspiration from the musical traditions of American jazz, West and Central African, Brazilian, Caribbean, and European classical music and earned B.M. and M.M. degrees from the Manhattan School of Music.
Roots & Shoots Concerts is an ongoing Academy series that showcases artists who reach back to earlier traditions in music (Americana, jazz, blues, rock, and world music) for inspiration while incorporating more recent forms and influences of the present.
This program is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
