Spencertown Academy Presents Members’ Art Show October 5 – November 3
Spencertown, New York–Spencertown Academy Arts Center presents its 9th annual Members’ Art Show featuring works made by more than 60 Academy community members. On Saturday, October 5, there will be an opening reception from 4:00pm to 6:00pm and the exhibit will remain on display through November 3. Gallery hours are Saturdays and Sundays from 1:00pm to 5:00pm. Admission is free and most of the artworks are for sale; a portion of the proceeds benefits the Academy.
“This new Members’ Show is once again a fabulously talented combination of diverse style, media, and themes, including 2D and 3D artwork. The work ranges from Realism to Impressionism to Abstract Art,” says Norma Cohen, chair of the Spencertown Academy Curatorial Committee who is co-curating this project with Karen Andrews. “This exhibit acts as a great reflection or snapshot of the current art world,” adds Andrews. “Everything is on the table—and as usually happens, the result comes down to each individual artist.”
Keith White’s painting entitled “Saccadic TLIP3” was selected as Curators’ Choice for the show. “The word ‘saccadic’ refers to quick, small movement of the eyes as they travel across a page, or perhaps in this instance, as movement along the lines, color patterns, and textures of a work of art,” says Cohen. “White’s somewhat complicated geometric composition, packed with several tones, and values of a number of colors, is a delight to see.”
