Please Volunteer for the 2018 Festival of Books – Labor Day Weekend

Setting up and selling 10,000 plus books is no mean feat, as always this event is only possible with your generous and active help!

Festival Job Descriptions

Greeter (Back Steps/Tent or Front Door): Welcomes and directs visitors either entering from the parking lot in the back of the building or as they enter the building through the front door.  This job takes place outside (Back Steps/Tent) or inside (Front Door) and can be seated.

Book Room Attendant: Replenishes books on tables as they are taken, straighten the displays, help customers find books; manage large orders; and answer questions.  This job is inside the building but requires you to be on your feet.

Cashier: Checks out book purchases (cash/check/credit card) on the iPads with Square. There will be a brief training session, to be announced, or we can partner you with an experienced cashier if you haven’t used Square before.  This job takes place inside the building and is seated.

Author Tent Attendant/Cashier: Makes sure programs are available; usher; make sure water, mike, chairs are set up for speakers; ring up sales for author books.  This job takes place outside in the tent and is primarily seated.   Bonus: you can listen to the program and still help!

Guest Assistant: Helps visitors access the Academy from the disabled parking area using the golf cart, run the elevator and help transport books that are too heavy to carry. Note:  You must be able to lift heavy boxes and operate the elevator. A driver’s license required to fulfill this role.

Food Tent: Helps set up and serve Festival attendees at the Cookbook Cafe coffee, home-baked treats, snacks, chili etc.  This job takes place outside in the food tent.

Children’s Program Assistant: Helps set up and manage the children’s program. Includes greeting the children, taking photos with Corduroy, etc.  This job takes place in the tent and requires you to be on your feet most of the time.

Children’s Book Reader: Reads storybooks to the Academy’s youngest members.  This job takes place in the tent or on the front porch of the Academy and is seated.
