Young Writers’ 2018 Contest Rules and Entry Information

Enter our contest for best Fiction/ Short Story or Nonfiction Essay or Memoir! You could win a prize of $200, $150 or $100.

2018 Young Writers’ Contest Rules and How to Enter:

You’re eligible to enter if you are currently in grade 9, 10, 11, or 12, enrolled in school or homeschooled, or live in Columbia, NY, Greene, NY or Berkshire, MA counties.

Fiction/Short Story may be about anything you’d like to write about, in story form, 4,000 words maximum .

Nonfiction Essay or Memoir may be about anything from your personal experience, in essay or memoir form, 4,000 words maximum.

Format: 12-pt. type, double spaced, on standard 8.5” x 11” standard page, with 1” margins. Include your name, address, grade and school on the title page, and in the email. Help us to receive, record and read your entry easily.

Submissions must not have been previously accepted for publication, nor won a prize.

Prizes will be awarded before end of the 2018 school year. First prize winners will be invited to read their work at the Spencertown Academy Festival of Books on Labor Day, or to request a volunteer to read for them.
