POSTPONED: “Whimsy” an Invitational Show
Saturday, July 25, 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 1:00 pm on Sunday and Saturday, repeating until Sunday, August 16, 2020
The Gallery at the Spencertown Academy of Art reopens on July 25th with the show “Whimsy.” After months of isolation and fears of coronavirus, The Gallery begins a delayed season with a show to delight the viewer with the works of seven artists; Gabe Brown, Keith Davidson, Ron Harrington, R. Wayne Reynolds, Dee Sabean, Audrie Sturman and, Betsy Wallin. Often inspired by nature or magic, exploration of fanciful characters, bright colors and design, each artist has created work that causes joy. There is a fanciful or playful aspect to much of the work without any serious purpose behind it. In addition to painting, there will be traditional contemporary sculpture, interactive art, illustration, murals and a cadre of characters in their LBD (little black dress).
“After years of unrest in the world, last year the Curatorial Committee decided to bring something lighthearted to its community during the 2020 season. At that time, who could have imagined how life with COVID-19 would impact our world and how ready we all would be for a show of whimsical art. Be prepared to smile,” said curator Barbara Lax Kranz.
